We met up with Charlie Farrer, a Client Solutions Manager at mobile marketing agency Somo, Charlie speaks about what led him to his job, what he currently does for Somo and how the market is changing.
Having not got the grades he needed for his first choice university Charlie decided to take a gap year, during which he retook them whilst working a part time job. This allowed him to go travelling and return back to study Sociology and Politics at the University of Birmingham. On completion of his degree, Charlie realised he had no interest in the subject.
Back home in Leeds Charlie was working in a bar when a family friend came into his work and struck up a conversation. After explaining how he wasn’t really happy with what he was doing, the person said they worked at a full service mobile agency called Somo and should come in for a chat. This led to him going in and interning for 3 months and in his own words “I’m still here now, 2 years later.”
What does your job entail?
Charlie’s main role as Client Solutions Manager is to ensure the client is getting the project that they want, for the budget and that results are delivered.
What's big in mobile?
“Inspiring most is how the space is always changing.” Charlie explains how you have to keep moving with market trends such as virtual reality this year He goes on to say that the great thing about it is that it comes in all different forms, for all sorts of audiences.
Who would you share a desk with?
“I think I would pick John Lennon, because he changed the face of music”, Charlie believes because of his interesting life he would always be able to keep him entertained.
