FutureRising headed back up to Solent Southampton University with a range of creative industry professionals. From advertising, branding, digital and social media to PR. The speakers passed on inspiration, advice for starting out a career in the industry.
We began with talks before setting a creative challenge for the students to get stuck into. After presenting their ideas each group was able to get some feedback from the pros (with a prize for the winning group!)
Emily-Faye Duncan, HR Advisor, Rufus Leonard
Emily is the HR Advisor at Rufus Leonard, so if there’s one person you need to meet at The Drum’s #1 digital and #2 design agency, she is the one. Having spent a decade moving up the ranks at Rufus, you’ll be able to find out what skills you need and how to get involved with their upcoming RAW internship scheme.
Michelle Mulvey, Graphic Designer, Rufus Leonard
Michelle started life at Rufus as a creative intern and after proving herself over 3 months on the RAW scheme, she has become an invaluable member of the design team. Find out how she discovered the opportunity, built her skillset and impressed during her time as an intern. Michelle will also reveal what really happens on a daily basis inside Rufus.
Corryn Boyes, Social Media Designer, ThinkJam
Corryn graduated from Southampton Solent University with a First Class Degree in Advertising and moved to London to become the first year alumni at the School of Communication Arts Advertising School. Corryn worked at a number of creative advertising agencies for over a year as an Art Director in a creative team before managing the marketing and communications at Moore House School. Corryn has now been working at ThinkJam in the social media team for over a year and works on entertainment brands across film, theatre and publishing.
Marie Larsen, Creative Strategist, BrandPie
Marie started her advertising degree in Norway, but decided to pack her stuff and move to Southampton to finish her degree at Solent University. Since then, she has had work experience from different agencies in London; AIA Worldwide, Krowd/Karmarama and BrandPie. Where she has been working on some exciting briefs for a variety of clients. At the moment she is finishing up her 6 months paid internship as a creative strategist at BrandPie.
Khamisi McKenzie, Co founder & Director, Three Halves Communications
After competing a BA in Sports Journalism and a MA in Media and Corporate Public Relations at Southampton Solent, Khamisi went straight into launching his own PR agency in, Red Mountain PR with fellow Solent Graduate Jermaine Addo. In 2014 Khamisi and Jermaine took their company through a rebrand, which led to the formation of a new company, Three Halves Communications and a additional co founder and Director of New Media, Vishal Ladwa. Three Halves was formed out of the core disciplines of the directors; PR, creative design and new media, offering clients a holistic approach to their marketing efforts. As PR Director of the company, Khamisi has worked on a range of projects and campaigns for clients within fashion music, food and drink and product innovation.
FutureRising will be visiting Oxford University to attend the Arts, Media & Marketing fair, running CV clinics and providing Advertising professionals to talk at the event.
FutureRising will be visiting Cambridge University with a range of creative industry professionals to help graduates find work in the creative industries. Unilever and R/GA are confirmed to attend on the day.
